Oh, the joys of budgeting. Maybe you are looking around your home and realizing it is time to upgrade and replace some of your existing furniture. So, the question we get a lot of is how do we stay within our budget but find quality furniture that will have a long life, without the fabric showing wear too quickly or having wood losing it’s integrity.
It’s true much of the furniture nowadays is cheaply made, and because of this if you have ever bought a piece of furniture that you have had to throw away within a couple of years, you will notice that the structure of the furniture was cheaply put together. There are a couple of things you want to look for. What kind of wood is being used, what is being used to hold it together, and what normal wear and tear looks like for that furniture. Here are a couple of examples that will help you to decide how to choose the right furniture that will stand up, at a budget you can afford.
Take a sectional for instance. You can find sectionals that price all the way up to $10,000 brand new. Let’s be real, many of us just can’t afford that. You know that sectional is going to stand the test of time, as it is made with high quality fabrics and wood that will hold its durability no matter how often it is sat on, slept on, or even jumped on. Though we strongly advise against that. If you go to the other side of the coin where you find a sectional for $500, chances are that you are going to see no matter how carefully you use it, if you lay on it the wrong way, or if you go to move it, something structurally may break, or the fabric and cushioning starts to sag. That is no good either. So, you have to find a happy medium. Interlocking panels, fabrics that are pre-approved for wearability and durability against AHFA standards, with high quality foam are just a few characteristics that one might look for one looking for a sectional that will hold up. Many of these you can find in our store for under $2000.
Another piece of furniture that you want to be very careful when buying because of it’s high usage is your bed frame. After all, you are going to be sleeping in your bed every night, or most nights that you don’t fall asleep on your oh so comfy couch. Solid wood legs, and a metal support frame can ensure that your bed is solid and will hold its own even when the kids pile in bed with you. Hardwood is also a good sign to look for when you are looking for a bedframe as it holds its integrity well over time. Bed frames in our store are between the $500-$900 range in our store, and well worth the money for your budget to ensure that you have a long-lasting bed frame that will outlast your mattress if you are someone who changes your mattress every 3-5 years.
