Decorating for the Hockey & Football Seasons

Published by Clive Braude on 27th Aug 2015

It's that time of year again, when the weather starts to get slightly chillier and the hockey and football fans start coming out in full force to support their teams. In doesn't matter if fans like to watch the game alone or if they prefer to play host to a house full of friends and make their home the destination on game night, either way they will want to take a long look at their living room and see if it's actually ready for the activity. Anybody excited about the upcoming hockey and football seasons can ready themselves, and their homes, by following these easy tips.

Prepare for an Influx of Guests with a Sectional Sofa

Fewer things in life are better than having over a group of friends to watch the game together, especially if there's a friendly rivalry happening. However, nobody wants to come over and hang out unless there's a comfortable place for them to sit. One loveseat and a corner chair are not going to be enough to comfortably house a medium sized group, let alone a large one. Anybody who is debating making their home the 'go-to' destination this hockey and football season may want to look into upgrading their seating situation with a sectional sofa. Sectionals are larger and can accommodate many extra people who may show up and want to dive right into the spacious sofa in front of them.

Seating Space Isn't the Only Concern during the Game

The main thing to think about is seating space, but once the couches and chairs are placed and the cushions and laid down the job is not yet finished. No game is complete without appropriate snacks and drinks, and snacks and drinks can be very messy during an intense period. Any stress about damage can be relieved by preparing in advance and enjoying the game while it happens. Plenty of tabletops will be needed so everyone has a place to put down their drinks and both coasters and trendy tablecloths in your team's colours can protect the surface of any coffee or side table that is being used.

Use the Sports Season as an Excuse to Redecorate

Many people redecorate their homes when the spring rolls around to give their house or condo a sunny interior to match the weather outdoors. But now that fall and winter are rolling around, those bright colours may not be the most appropriate with the new weather. Now is the perfect time to change up the interior colours to match the autumn season and anybody who has a favourite team they cheer for routinely won't want to miss the chance to use their team's colours as a theme. Having friends over to watch the game shouldn't be stressful and with the proper preparation it can be just as enjoyable for the host as well as the guests. Keep adequate seating, protect the furniture against rogue spills and redecorate to match the season and your home will be known as the game night destination.
