With a new year upon us, and we begin to wind down from the festivities of Christmas, we know the next big gathering is the grand finale to the end the year. Whether you are having a night filled with many people coming and going throughout the evening, or you are having a small gathering with close friends, family playing cards, and listening to music it is important to make sure that you have everything planned down to the letter to make sure that your guests have as much fun as possible. Consider putting your dining room table against a wall as a buffet table and spread your chairs throughout the living room or areas of the dining room for people to sit and gather. You want to make sure as well you have enough foldable chairs to ensure everyone has a place to sit. Maybe now is the time to purchase a couple extra dining room chairs to have for extra guests or even a dining room bench. That’s perfect for kids to sit on or even a couple to sit together. Another option if you don’t already have them is to purchase bar stools. These are a great investment and can be used in other areas of your home after the party even if you don’t have a breakfast bar or bar type area set up.
The next thing you want to do is coordinate your colors to ensure that everything matches. You want to make sure all things are pleasing to the eye when guests arrive. If you have a neutral tone in your home investing in a few wall hangings, an area rug, and even some throw pillows can make things pop in your living room, creating a warm feeling throughout. Leave up those Christmas decorations till after New Year’s. After all it is still the holidays. Remember that New Year’s colors are typically silver, gold, black and white. Look at your current décor, what you have up for Christmas decorations, and try to work within all three-color schemes. This will allow you some additional pop into your home for your gathering, and into the new year as well.
The final thing you want to do is stand back and look at each room. Remember people are going to be taking pictures all night long. Pull out your camera during the evening a few nights before New Years and see how the photos turn out. How is the lighting? What kind of lighting do you need to add to make things pop, and still have a crystal-clear picture. Maybe getting a few new lamps for your end tables in which you can dim the lights, or a corner lamp may just do the trick to add a little more lighting without making it too bright. By doing this you will be able to tick off three boxes at once. You will be able to see how good the lighting is, how well the photos turn out, and how you currently have the furniture set up, as well as what needs to change to ensure that you have more than enough room for everyone to stand, move around, and have enough places for everyone to sit while they are visiting.
