Moving Into an Empty Space and How to Fill It

Moving Into an Empty Space and How to Fill It

So you are moving into a new place, and for whatever reason you are starting off fresh. When you are moving into a new place, with no furniture it can be hard to figure out how to pick out the best pieces for your new house or apartment.

So where do you start? You need to take a look at the space you are working with in each room. Many people have a tendency to have their heart set on certain pieces of

furniture because they like a certain style or something catches their eye, and they just really want it. The issue is when you take your wants and match them with the size and layout of your room, they don’t always match.

So how can you have the best of both worlds? It really comes down to really envisioning your room, and what you are going for. Think in terms of the living room. Are you going for cozy or are you going for an open concept? If you have an apartment, is your kitchen separate or does the counterspace completely cut the kitchen and living room off. These are all things to consider when filling up the space in your home.

So let’s work with the living room today. Say you want to have a sectional that pulls out, a coffee table, space for a tv and a corner chair of some kind.

If you have a housewith a larger living room and large picture windows. That very easily could allow for you to have a larger sectional a chair in the corner, and if you want to create an open space, you could potentially place your tv on the wall. Right underneath you could put a nice taller tv stand to house your electronics (surround sound receiver, video game consoles, etc.).

In an apartment it might look a little different. You may want to stay with the same idea of putting the tv on the wall with a smaller more compact tv stand below the tv for you to neatly have your electronics. If you are going to have a sectional in a small apartment it is going typically going to need to be one that is on the small side (8 feel or less, and no more than 3 feet on the lounge side), not only to fit through the doorway, and in your apartment, but also to fit in the elevator. Depending on the layout of your living room, you may or me not be able to actually have a lounge chair in the living room. If you have heart set on a lounge chair as well, you may want to really consider another alternative to a sectional like opting for a couch to make room for both.

Without the sectional you could easily nest a small end table between the couch and your lounge chair instead. You could even throw in a matching ottoman.
