Chances are it’s new year, same house! Unless you were ambitious enough to move over the holidays you are spending the new year in your old home. Is keeping a cleaner, tidier home one of your new year’s resolutions? If it isn’t, it should be! There is nothing more relaxing than coming home to a clean, organized home. And the satisfaction of knowing you made that happen is just amazing!
Instead of planning on doing it all in one go once a week, we suggest setting yourself a cleaning schedule. Each day, you’ll have a few minutes of manageable housework instead of several hours on a day you would probably rather be relaxing in your tidy home!
Here are a couple of home cleaning schedules that we love. This one from Good Housekeeping won’t have you running for the hills. It’s a digestible list of things to do each day, month, and 3-6 months that you can keep on the fridge as a reminder until it’s just habit!
If you would like something a little bit more in depth though, and I’m talking baseboards here, we suggest Martha Stewart’s daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules. There is also a seasonal cleaning list that may take some adjusting to suit your home. We suggest printing these off, laminating them, and then using a dry erase marker to keep track of what you’ve done and what still needs to be done. This is also a great technique for delegating out work to children, and sharing the load with a partner.
Lastly, instead of dreading the time you will take cleaning your home, look for the joy you can find in having a tidy home! You have probably already heard that Marie Kondo’s new Netflix Series Tidying Up based on her best selling book “The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up.” Even if you’re not ready to put together your own house cleaning schedule, go get a cup of coffee and let Marie Kondo inspire you!
