Whether you have a separate space in your home for an office, or you have an area of your home set up for an office, we tend to outgrow our office furniture. This is especially the case when our work gets busier, and especially when tax time rolls around. Time to start organizing all those invoices, and receipts, find spaces for new office equipment you bought, and place things where they belong. This is especially true for those who just started working from home over the last few years.
The first thing to consider is shelving. Before you decide on how big you want your desk to be, you need to ensure that you have what you need to house everything else. If you want to have a larger shelf, that might mean less space for your desk, or maybe you even need two or three shelving units, depending on books, and how much paperwork you need to store away, but have easy access to. You can buy wicker baskets and decorated boxes for your shelves. Throw on some décor, some books, and make your office seem open and inviting. If you want to go with one shelving unit, but still have extra storage, you could consider adding a console table to your office, or even just a side table to house extra books, supplies, finishing it off with the office décor of your choosing.
Next of course you want to look at your desk. Do you need a large space to work out of where you need an L-shaped desk, or do you just need a space where you can put your keyboard, mount your monitors on the wall, and house a desktop for example. Those are the key things to keep in mind when choosing a desk. Of course, you want to make sure you have space for an L-shaped desk, and ensure it is going to fit in the corner that you want it to. Something to keep in mind, is think of how your chair will sit at the desk both when you are in it, and out of it. When you pull the chair out to sit down, you want to make sure there is nothing impeding your way of being able to easily sit down and move into your desk. If you have the space, L-shaped desks is a great way to go. This is especially true, if you want to minimize the amount of shelving you have, and have places to store your paperwork, and office supplies right at your fingertips.
